From Growing Business:
Welcome to Young Guns 2006. Innovation.
Lightning growth. Sheer bravery and guts.
Identifying a list of young UK-based
entrepreneurs who comprehensively fulfil such
criteria is no easy task. But we’ve done it and
you’d have to search far and wide to beat the
class of 2006.
Each year, Growing Business sets out to unveil
the most promising, fresh-faced figures on the
domestic business landscape. Our Young Guns are
no ordinary entrepreneurs – they stand out from
their peers through their imagination,
performance and sheer stubbornness not accepting
second best.
Excluding our 90-strong alumni, we
trawled through the details of more than
100 entrepreneurs in order to unearth
the top 30 owner-managers aged 35 and
under. We looked for eye-catching
turnovers, outstanding growth forecasts
and evidence of impressive.
Our 30 chosen ones are drawn from a
variety of backgrounds and industries,
but they all share the necessary traits
that make them stand out in an
increasingly crowded business world. And
it will certainly be worth tracking
their progress over the coming years.
Here's how they shaped up statistically:
• Average age: 29
• There are 23 men, seven women
• On average they employ 38 people
• Their average turnover is £8.3m
(excluding the two undisclosed
turnovers)
• The average company age is
four-years-old.
• There are 19 sole founders. Ten Young
Guns had co-founders, while one acquired
the business.
But statistics only tell half the story.
